Dug is reporting for snuggle duty and hoping Santa brings him a home for Christmas.

Dug is just over 2 years old, he is a very big, very handsome Goldie with an even bigger heart and a very smart brain!

Dug has been waiting months for his own furever family and would really love to be unwrapping Christmas toys in his new home this year.

He is a clever, energetic, cuddly boy who loves learning, car rides, zoomies and then crashing for big snuggles with his humans. He is not a problem barker and he has great recall, but Dug still need some help with his manners because he can forget his size and get a bit bouncy when he meets new people.

Here’s what Dug requires in his new furever home:

  • A home where someone is home a lot and has time to keep up his positive training and keep his smart brain busy.

  • A calm household with no small children visiting regularly please – Dug doesn’t realise how big he is and could accidentally knock little ones over.

  • MUST have another friendly dog aged around 4–6 years who is young enough to play but calm enough to help Dug chill out when he gets excited.

  • Confident humans who are physically strong and experienced in positive, reward-based training to help Dug keep improving. He currently pulls while on leads and jumps up when overly excited.

  • Dug currently lives with a cat, so he has learnt to tolerate them, but if the cat runs, he may chase – so any feline housemates will need to be confident and well-managed.

Dug absolutely adores cuddles, loves the car, enjoys being out and about, and he really just wants to be with his people as much as possible.

If you’re an active, dog-experienced home with a suitable doggy friend, no small kids, plenty of time, and a calm environment – then Dug could be your very best boy. He is looking for a committed forever family who will continue with his training and love him for the big, goofy sweetheart that he is.

Adoption Process

RGRV invests significant time getting to know our Goldies to ensure a perfect match between each dog’s needs and their new home. Ensuring the future wellbeing of both the dog and the new owner is our priority, and a good fit between the dog and the adopter is essential.

Minimum criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for adoption:

  • Age restrictions: we do not place dogs in homes with children under the age of 10 years. This policy is strict due to the generally unknown history of our dogs, aiming to minimise potential risks.

  • Home requirements: your residence must have a securely enclosed outdoor area, with fencing and gates at least 1.5 metres high.

  • Yard size: typically, we do not place dogs in homes with small yards (less than the size of a double car garage), unless the dog is elderly and less space is suitable.

  • Housing type: we do not place dogs in apartment blocks, as our dogs generally require more space and a specific living environment.

  • Shelter: your yard must include a covered structural shelter, such as a covered verandah, entertainment area or open garage. A kennel or dog house does not provide adequate shelter.

  • Application process: the adoption questionnaire must be completed by the person(s) who will be named as the new owner(s). We cannot accept questionnaires completed on behalf of someone else, including family members.
