Meet Sadie, a softie with a big heart, ready for her furever home.

Hello, I'm Sadie.

I'm a 6-year-old Golden Retriever girl, and I'd love to tell you a bit about myself.

My story
The humans think that for a long time my job was having puppies. Nobody showed me that the world could be gentle, so I learned to be on guard. Later I was adopted from a shelter by a family who loved me dearly and did their very best for me. When I needed more help than they could give, they brought me to RGRV, and I've been with my foster mum for five months, learning and growing.

What I'm like at home
At home I'm a really good girl. I'm toilet trained, healthy, have no special dietary needs, and I'm not destructive (apart from a few toys that needed "remodelling"). I like a bath, but I also like rolling in the dirt to dry off afterwards. I love the sofa, I'll settle on my bed or pretty much anywhere, and I'm happiest when my people are close by. I adore my ball.

I know sit, down, wait, off and come, my recall is excellent, and I wait to be told before crossing the road. I'm so clever I worked out doors and the dog door all by myself, so I need people who can keep up with me.

What I'm still learning
The outside world still worries me. I can be reactive around dogs I don't know and I sometimes bark at passing dogs, possums, cats and even animals on TV. But once I’ve had time to sniff out a new doggy and decide they’re nice, I’m a really good friend. I'm working with The Good Hound Company and I'm making real progress, but it's taking time. I also get worried when my people leave, so I do best living inside with my family.

My perfect home

  • A couple, or a family with older children

  • People who understand that I'm a dog first, with a hard start in life, and who will give me clear, kind boundaries alongside lots of love

  • Commitment to continuing my training

  • Secure fencing, ideally with no access to the front fence or gate

  • No cats or small pets

  • An easy-going boy dog would be nice, but I'm fine as an only dog too

  • A car seat tether for car trips

I'm a quick learner and I want so badly to relax and enjoy the world. With time and patience, I know I can become the goldie I was always meant to be.

Love Sadie

Adoption Process

RGRV invests significant time getting to know our Goldies to ensure a perfect match between each dog’s needs and their new home. Ensuring the future wellbeing of both the dog and the new owner is our priority, and a good fit between the dog and the adopter is essential.

Minimum criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for adoption:

  • Age restrictions: we do not place dogs in homes with children under the age of 10 years. This policy is strict due to the generally unknown history of our dogs, aiming to minimise potential risks.

  • Home requirements: your residence must have a securely enclosed outdoor area, with fencing and gates at least 1.5 metres high.

  • Yard size: typically, we do not place dogs in homes with small yards (less than the size of a double car garage), unless the dog is elderly and less space is suitable.

  • Housing type: we do not place dogs in apartment blocks, as our dogs generally require more space and a specific living environment.

  • Shelter: your yard must include a covered structural shelter, such as a covered verandah, entertainment area or open garage. A kennel or dog house does not provide adequate shelter.

  • Application process: the adoption questionnaire must be completed by the person(s) who will be named as the new owner(s). We cannot accept questionnaires completed on behalf of someone else, including family members.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

Prioritising Dog Needs: at RGRV, the welfare of our dogs is our top priority. This means that even if your application is approved, there may be a waiting period before a suitable dog becomes available. Your application will be placed on a waitlist during this time.

Waitlist Confirmation: you are required to confirm your continued interest in adopting every three months by emailing info@rgrv.org.au. Failure to confirm within this period will result in removal from the waitlist.

As RGRV is a charity run by unpaid volunteers, we ask for your patience as it may take time to respond to your application.
